Simple Really is Better

Processed foods are easy to come by, cheap, and extremely delicious, which is why it’s so hard for you to get your kids to eat those vegetables, and why it’s impossible for me to resist a Cheesy Gordita Crunch at 4am in the morning.

But in a desert wasteland of heart stopping, $5 meals there’s a beautiful oasis called Christophe’s To Go

“Keep food simple and beautiful and it will stir all of the senses, reawakening a primal bond with the natural world.”

– Chef Christophe

I could not agree more Chef Christophe, which is why I was excited for the opportunity to try some of their delicious Turkey Paleo Lasagna and Beef Burgundy.

It turns out that getting my hands on the actual food product was harder than anticipated, but the great customer service came through in the end.

I’ll spare you the long story and just tell you that Christophe’s to go offers three ways of acquiring the food products AKA delicious premade meals.

  1. Get it delivered directly to your door – my personal favorite.
  1. Visit a brick and mortar Christophe’s To Go – my second favorite.
  1. Pick it up from a cooler at another business – my least favorite.

I attempted to pick it up my meal at Back to Balance Midtown, but that just didn’t work out for me.  I broke my foot in a 15k race, and had to abort the mission.  Luckily for me, Christophe’s To Go has great customer service, and made me some fresh meals and delivered them directly to my door. Believe me, not everybody does that.

When I got the food, I was shocked by the shear quantity and invited all my friends over for dinner. It’s unfortunate that my roommate and I only have a combined 2 friends, but at least one of them showed up.

Hearty Menu – Easy Preparation

Browsing through the menu online, and deciding what to order, was not easy. From Chicken Pot Pie to Paleo Pork Chili Verde to Kung Pao Chicken, Chef Christophe offers classic comfort foods with simple ingredients and outstanding flavors.

Whether you’re vegan, gluten free, vegetarian, or carnivorous Christophe’s To Go is the spot for you.

I ordered the Beef Burgundy the Paleo Turkey Lasagna because I wanted to try a classic comfort dish and a classic comfort dish made healthy.

I started with the Beef Burgundy because I am a meat and potato, comfort stew, kind of guy, but when I first looked it, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it as the mashed potatoes was obstructing the view of the savory insides.

I said WTF, took out a fork, and went in for the kill.  It was very cold, and very delicious. Since I don’t have modern technology, or what you refer to as a microwave, I immediately heated the oven to 400, scooped out some more Beef Burgundy, and waited. 15 minutes later the Beef Burgundy was gone.

I was actually amazed by the simplicity of the ingredients and the outstanding taste of the Beef. There are only 14 ingredients in the Beef Burgundy Pie.

Not only are the meals simple, healthy and delicious, but they are extremely easy to prepare. Since the meals are already cooked and only need to be heated up, you can use a microwave or oven to get the job done.

The Paleo Turkey Lasagna took a bit longer to heat up due to shear mass, but it’s really something of a wonder that this Paleo Turkey Lasagna even exists. I am not on a paleo diet, and I don’t even eat very healthy, but I mean how do you make lasagna without cheese and pasta?  Well I had to find out.

Apparently you use eggplant as the pasta, and an egg white mayonnaise as the cheese on top.  The key, however, is a really, really good sauce and some kind of meat to give it that jena se qua, in this case it’s healthy turkey.

I am pretty sure one day Paleo Turkey Lasagna will be recognized as a modern marvel. I mean it only has 10 ingredients: Carrot, Egg Whites, Onion, Oregano, Ground Turkey, Tomato Puree, Salt, Eggplant, Olive Oil, and Pepper.

I dare you to try to make something this good with only 10 ingredients. If you do, please contact me because I would love to try it.

All in all I have to say that Christophe’s To Go had great customer service, delicious food, all at an extremely reasonable price.
